From the whatsuplb egroup…

September 09, 2006 By: whatsuplb Category: UPLB, UPLB anything goes, UPLB campus 2 Comments →

Note from whatsuplb: As you may noticed, this site is pretty new. I’m still tweaking ideas to see where it would go. Got my first sign-up in the whatsuplb egroup last night. I’m sharing it here. I guess this is what I want to see… So many changes happening in LB these days, so different from when we were students. Some landmarks have gone, new landmarks to replace them. Yet. we all have fond memories of UPLB, not only because of the university itself but because of the friends and people who touched our lives and whose lives we’ve touched.

Nagsesenti na ako… well anyway here’s the post. Any suggestions? comments on the site? Please join the whatsuplb egroup. Thanks!

ei guys,i was at LB during early 90′s… pero iba na xa nya ngayon…..

I miss FORESTRY… pramis… we use to hang out there during weekends. UP LB is so cool… thats where i first experienced BEER BONG, SLAMMER, where i first witness Apo Oblation Run, tasted the freshest cows milk. and ice cream na corn flavor. Golly… fried chicken….. the best sa ellen’s….. BUKO PIE… Tata Wood’s buko pie and D’Originals.

I remember nung nag carolling kami sa may picard ata yun… tapos na mumu kami… out of nowhere may lumitaw na babae tapos nawala yung babae then biglang may lumitaw na asa na black na super laki…. as in flaming red eyes pa ito…. takbuhan kami talaga then pag lingon namin wala naman bigla yung aso.

MACES… the national bookstore of Los Baños during my time.

Given the chance to go visit los banos again esp UPLB…. i’d stay there for a week.

Welcome to Carabao Park.

This site is for websites and blogs about UPLB or by UPLB students and alumni. I’ll browse the web and see what I can find. Any suggestions? Email them at whatsuplb@gmail.com. Many thanks.

What’s UP, Los Baños?

The Hidden Face of the Philippines

August 25, 2006 By: whatsuplb Category: Los Banos, UPLB anything goes 3 Comments →

I came across this article from http://www.goodnewspilipinas.com/ written by an American who married a Los Baños-born lady. A few snippets below:

Of family, he writes:
“When I think of the Philippines, I see large extended families that live happily together in small places. I think of large families that remain not only physically close, but emotionally close as well.”

Of food:
“I think of the smell of fried garlic, fried fish, and fried daing (small dried fish) wafting from the kitchen. I think of the smell of fried garlic, fried fish, and fried daing (small dried fish) wafting from the neighbor’s kitchen. (Both because of the close proximity of the homes and because of the hospitality where one is welcomed and expected in the neighbor’s home.)”

Of Los Baños:
“I think of the warm smiles, courtesy, cheerful bantering, and “Hey Joe!s” of children and locals as I walk through Los Baños.”

- Excerpts from “The Hidden Face of the Philippines” by Bob Kemerait.
