Long time no post

What’s up, Los Baños? I haven’t had the time to blog lately. Grad school work is taking it’s toll and it’s only now that I’ve managed to catch up with blog matters. Though I still can’t post that much these days. Anyway, I’ll share interesting reads from UPLB students and alumni bloggers, as well as smuttering of blogs I like to read.

Memorable events nung freshman ka

October 25, 2007 By: whatsuplb Category: Alumni, UPLB anything goes, batch `91 3 Comments →

Nothing like being a frehsman - new experiences, blockmates, new friends, exposure to national issues, imbibing the UP culture. I’m compiling this list of memorable events during our freshman year. Please help me fill up my list. Thanks.

Name three memorable events during your freshman year. Let me start. Batch `91 ako.

1. Mt Pinatubo erruption (ang alikabok sa LB!)
2. Salonga leads the Philippine Senate in rejecting the RP-US Bases Treaty (ang saya sa campus the day after)
3. Walang kamatayang “More than words” ang number one song.

Anyone up for this?

A 3-pool aquathlon (UPLB Baker pool, Botanical Garden and Pook ni Maria Makiling) organized by the UPLB Trantados Triathlon Club will be held on Sept 15, Saturday starting at 3pm.

Here’s how it goes:

Run from Baker Hall to the Botanical Garden (2km incline) and swim 400
meters in the 25-m pool. Then run to Pook ni Ma. Makiling (3km incline) and swim 400m in its 50-m super cool pool. Then run 3kms downhill screaming like crazy to Baker pool for a 400-m rinse. And finally run just a bit (and I really mean it) towards the line for a dramatic, picture perfect finish.

Distance: 3 x 400 meters and 2km+3km+3km “rolling” run course (swim course guaranteed flat - meron bang di flat na swimming pool?)

Registration fee is P450.00.

See you there?

The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra at UPLB

One of the things I remember fondly of UPLB are concerts and playsat the Umali Auditorium. I watched the shows featuring Rowena Arrietta, Manila Chamber Orchestra, Lisa Macuja and of course the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO).ppomaestro.gif

So I am definitely looking forward to tomorrow’s concert by the PPO at Umali Auditorium. Admission is free and the show starts at 7 PM.

See you there!

Visiting the garden show

I managed to visit the garden show last April and here are some pictures. The plant in focus are the crotons or what we know as San Francisco. They come in dazzling yellows and various shapes. There were also entried on the Bangkok kalachuchi, the first time I saw in white. In recent years, herbs has been the fashion, so there’s a variety of herbs available, too. Things I looked forward, too, was getting the kafir plant, whose leaves make for very delicious Thai dishes. What else did I see? Here are the pictures:
