What’s UP, Los Baños?

The  UP Institute of Creative Writing has launched the UP Centennial Gawad Likhaan, a literary contest, as part of the celebrations of the UP Centennial this year.

Six awards—each one worth P200,000—will be offered for original, book-length works in the following categories: a novel or short story collection in English in English; a novel or short story collection in Filipino; a poetry collection in English; a poetry collection in Filipino; a full-length work or collection of creative nonfiction in English; and a full-length work or collection of sanaysay in Filipino.

The year 2008, marks the University of the Philippines’ 100 years of service to the country.  To celebrate this important milestone, the UP Open University is sponsoring  the UP Centennial Lecture Series featuring talks/public lectures of distinguished scholars, academicians, and personalities from various fields.  While it is held in various campuses of UP, the lecture is beamed live to all campuses.

UP Open University is inviting all UP Alumni and the public to attend the lecture titled “Beyond the Classroom: UP’s Responsibility in Helping Rebuild a Ravaged Nation” on 15 February 2008 at 1:45 to 4:00 pm at the AVRoom, UP Open University, Los Banos, Laguna.  The speaker is Dr. Francisco Nemenzo. former UP President and Member of the IRRI Board of Trustees.
