What’s up, Los Baños? I haven’t had the time to blog lately. Grad school work is taking it’s toll and it’s only now that I’ve managed to catch up with blog matters. UPLB Alumni Association of Thailand

Came across this blogger site for UPLB alumni from Thai. It’s rather new and has few posts only and you probably won’t understanding anything at all as they are written in Thai scripts. But it is still heartwarming to know of our linkage with the Thais. Makes one think of pad thai, papaya salad and red hot chilis! For a dose of Thailand in Los Baños, there are two places to go. Namjai Thai at LB Square offers fried rice with basil, papaya salad, seafood salad, frog legs in curry (not always available though) and several types of noodles. My favorites are the beef noodles, papaya salad, grass jelly salad, fried tofu and the pork with string beans and kafir. Since it is located at LB Square, you can dine al fresco, too. The other Thai resto is Ning’s Thai House of Noodles, the bestseller of which is the pa siu – flat noodles with peanuts, kangkong and lots of garlic. The sauce for their springroll is a must try, too. There is also the chicken with nuts – sauteed chicken strips with garlic, bell pepper, chili and ground peanuts. Tita Cora, the owner of Ning’s, is such a nice person to talk and you can watch while she’s cooking your order. Each serving would set you back from 50-80 pesos. They’re certainly worth the price.

And by the way, it also a good idea to befriend a Thai student. You will surely be invited to a Thai feast.

There’s one online course that particularly interests me, Filipiniana Online – a multimedia course on Philippine Arts and Culture (more).

A belated welcome to What’s UP, Los Baños?

Why this blog? I got this idea when I met my blockmates last August. We always get back to reminiscing our UPLB days – teachers, classes, escapades, org as well as our crushes then. This brings me back in college, I was at SU during the Loyalty Day celebration and there was a group of alumni who made it a point to eat at the coffeeshop at SU because that was were they used to eat. And yes, my friends and I would get to talk about the things that used to be and what we have now. I got this idea that it would be good to know how was life in UPLB then (maybe how different…). Our memories of UPLB would be defined by the years we were there, the decade, the politics of our time, the fashion and the music… Let’s bridge the gap between years – share what was UPLB in your time, get a glimpse of what UPLB was for others and enjoy what is UPLB now. Hence, What’s UP, Los Baños?I started this a couple of weeks ago, writing about my favorite memories of UPLB – the gazebo at the Horticulture garden, Ellen’s fried chicken, the ever increasing jeepney fare, most especially my blockmates, friends and teachers. Now that I am back in LB for graduate studies, I am rediscovering UPLB all over again. Then typhoon Milenyo came. From 5-10 visitors each day (mostly my friends) to hundreds of visitors per day last week, I am deeply overwhelmed by the generous comments and feedbacks from all of you. I am glad to share with you my blog, fellow alumni. I especially enjoyed your sharing your memories of UPLB when you were here as students.

Hi! Welcome to What’s UP, Los Baños! This is just an experimental phase. Sort of a news and events portal for fellow UPLB people in Los Baños and around the world. Let’s see where it will go…

For some background, I am a batch `91 girl, currently in Los Baños though I’ve been away here right after graduation. Now I’m back and will probably be based in LB for a couple of years. I might as well keep you up to date on what’s happening in LB.Wouldn’t it be great to keep in touch? To reminisce what UPLB was like when we were “reigning” its academic halls and roaming its streets?
