UPLB alumnus wins St Andrews Prize for the Environment
Congratulations to Dr David Manalo of the Agricultural Systems Cluster of the College of Agriculture and his team for winning the 2007 St Andrews Prize for the Environment. The prize recognizes significant contribution to environmental conservation and entries are selected from more than 50 countries each year. A panel of eminent trustees from various fields of science, industry and government select the project with the best combination of good science, economic realism and political acceptability.

For incoming freshmen, prospective students or alumni missing UPLB, check this one out. Came across this video of UPLB taken several years ago and submitted by an alumni. It will take you around campus starting from Grove to Carabao Park, Bio Sci to Agronomy, Aninal Science to Baker Hall and the dorms. Check it out here or hop on to YouTube, search for UPLB tags and who knows, there might be videos of people you know or perhaps your org. Last time I checked, there were videos of several orgs, a judo tournament, the UPLB Street Jazz and many more.
UPLB Alumni Association of Thailand
Came across this blogger site for UPLB alumni from Thai. It’s rather new and has few posts only and you probably won’t understanding anything at all as they are written in Thai scripts. But it is still heartwarming to know of our linkage with the Thais. Makes one think of pad thai, papaya salad and red hot chilis! For a dose of Thailand in Los Baños, there are two places to go. The Fertility Tree
I’ve had a lot of requests for a picture of the Fertility Tree so here it is, taken one fine Saturday morning. There’s a gazebo at the back and the Carillon on the side. Next year UP celebrates its Centenial Year and the UPLB Centenial Committee is identifying heritage trees or
