I won’t be blogging, right?

February 21, 2007 By: whatsuplb Category: blogging No Comments →

I just posted a few hours ago that I won’t be blogging for a while but I can’t resist putting out this short note that the UP Open University is celebrating their anniversary today. You might want to check out their website http://www.upou.edu.ph for a list of courses that they offer. There’s one online course that particularly interests me, Filipiniana Online - a multimedia course on Philippine Arts and Culture (more).

Sights and sounds from the Feb Fair

February 15, 2007 By: whatsuplb Category: UPLB campus 4 Comments →

It’s past 1am, and I could still here in my Umali apartment, the bands in concert at the Fair. Must be my age, but they’re like noise now unlike in my younger years. Well oh well, it’s second to the last night and for sure lots of people are there. IH usually have their open house and tomorrow, it will be Men and Women’s dorm. I was at the Fair last Tuesday to get myself that barbecue meal I’ve been hankering after. Amoy barbecue! It was not that crowded yet. My friends and I strolled around the place while a debate on wage hike is going on. Earlier, students can be seen strolling with their pets. A notable thing is the History II booth by a young faculty that showed world cultures. And what was the Pinoy Big Brother II shuttles doing there? I heard that yesterday, as it was Valentine’s Day, it was really crowded. Tomorrow is the last day, and my friends are planning to go. So see you there!

Things to look forward to this February

February 10, 2007 By: whatsuplb Category: UPLB campus 3 Comments →

February is probably one of the busiest months for life at UPLB. The social life, that is. First comes the much anticipated Feb Fair, when the campus really comes to life. All roads lead to Umali Freedom Park. Forget about exams and classes and enjoy all the sights and sounds at the Fair. Will there be rides this year? When I was still an undergrad, there used to be this ride called the Octopus. I can’t count the number of friends who threw up after riding it, but still, they look forward to it the next year. My favorite booth is from the International Students Association. Having no org (barbarian ako), I gravitate to their booth for all sorts of food. I particularly like the Vietnamese spring roll, it used to be that I can only eat it during Feb Fair. Good thing that Mrs. Phuong has a resto at Agrix so I can have it anytime I want. I remember meeting this Japanese graduate student, he always made origami figures with chocolates inside. Kaya naman, araw-araw akong pumapasyal sa booth nila. He’s kinda cute, too :) These days, I still try to look for their food booth, I am assured that Tita Kwon of Namjai Thai (LB Square) will be serving Thai barbecued squid, somtam as well as dishes from other countries. Nothing beats eating all this amidst the noise and smoky smell at the fair. Where else can you also gather all sorts of barbecued items, siomai, and turo-turo in one place at one time? Only during Feb Fair!

Second to look forward to - Valentine’s Day! Walk by along Grove to the gate and you will see a lot of roses being sold. Valentine’s Day itself, it seems that everyone is carrying flowers. Need I say that Mernel’s will be overworked with orders? So if you want to be assured of Mernel’s cake this Wednesday, make sure to order by February 12! They are that busy. The good thing is, it seems that February 14 is not only a day for lovers. Time to keep base with friends and family as well. When you go around restaurants in Los Banos, you will find that it’s not only boyfriends/girlfriends having dinners. Families and barkadas as well go out to celebrate the day.

Third reason is the Open House of Men’s and Women’s dorms. I used to live a Womens and as early as the week before, we start cleaning our rooms, planning food to eat. I can’t wait for Friday next week!

Well, see you all at the Fair.
