Vega Mall - this always causes a gasp for the oldtimer returning to UPLB after so many years.
You didn’t go to UPLB if you don’t know Maces! It’s like they’ve been around forever.
This used to be Ellen’s Fried, the restaurant with one of the best fried chicken. They also had ginisang monggo, chopsuey, macaroni salad and chicharon which they served every day. Even until now…
This place is now a hardware store.

ala na pala ang Ellen’s sa lugar na iyon? Dun pa naman kami sabay magdinner dati ng ex-bf ko. Oo nga, nakita ko ang Vega Center… nasira niya ang facade ng UPLB.

Up to now I can still taste their fried chicken in combo with ginisang munggo at syempre with ketsup! Wow sarap! I miss the old place…
I agree the facade of UPLB has transformed.., parang entrance sa unversity of Mc Donalds.

i miss the old Ellen’s — during the early 80s it had one of the best food deals: fried chicken with rice for only PHP 2.25; and if you were really without a lot of cash…just order rice and ask the person at behind the counter to make a topping with some of the extra sauce! tipid. it was a favorite gathering ground of cebuano and ilonggo students before the rest of the campus caught on….
