Fastfood not so fast…
Ever imagine life in UPLB without McDo, Jollibee, KFC or Pizza Hut? No Chowking or Mini-Stop or 7-11? Or no LB Square for that matter.
Yes, there was a time when they were not there.
When eating at Jollibee meant going to Calamba Crossing and something to really work forward to.
Petrino’s tapsilog is a favorite and the only franchised burger stands were Big Mak, Minute Burger and Burger Machine. Oh yes, there was Little Folks, too. My favorite at Petrino’s however, is not the tapsilog but the hotsilog because they use Purefoods TJ hotdog!
Fastfood meant Mother’s Best at Ilag’s or Grove and Ellen’s Fried Chicken before it became the “CR-like” building.
A piece of Ellen’s fried chicken costs only 7 pesos. 25 pesos na ngayon.
Lailani’s pan de sal (located in the KFC site) was Jericho’s competition.
Angelo’s (FO Santos cor Lopez Ave) served pizza and sizzling food.
Greenwich, before it became the big franchise restaurant, was located in the now Woodbridge Pizza parlor.
The SU coffee shop served the best pancakes, spaghetti and halo-halo.
Coop Canteen and LS (Langhap Sarap in Agrix) served the best arroz caldo. I remember my bestfriend and me going to LS after our 2pm class for a bowl of arroz caldo.
Cels was located at Demarses Subdivision.
Bug-ong (Agrix Complex) restaurant served Asian-inspired dishes. I miss their grilled chicken!
Café Amalia (also at Agrix) was the fine-dining restaurant in town.
How about you, any fond food memories of UPLB?

Miss ko na LB!

i accidentally came across your blog and you had my cerebral cells racing down memory lane like ive just been given a shot of adrenalin.
And that my dear was the origin of fastfoods. Ituro mo, ihahain ko.
Walang jolibee nun, not even a bigmak. ang meron nun, turon at bananacue. talk about hygiene, patay lahat ng germs kasi straight from the frying pan ang bananacue.

Sadly Sexy passed away several years.

What I really liked best was Ellens Fried Chicken or the Chicken BBQ of Lutong Bahay.

I remember looking forward to going to Calamba crossing for a Jollibee Chunky Chicken sandwich, they don’t serve that anymore… it’s the chicken salad (with mayo) sandwich… we do that on the way home on Saturday afternoons, after PalaCASan, CAS sportsfest every Saturday, first sem…
Campus Inn had two places then, the one along Grove (bamboo grove na), and the one in Demarses… used to call them Campus Inn IN (Demarses) and Campus Inn OUT (Grove)… hehe… loved their food, and loved their sounds, blasting new wave music all the way through lunch and dinner, NU107!!
Goto ni Lola, right outside Angelo’s… for after disco goto
Hot pandesal from Jericho’s, waiting in line at around 4:00 a.m., and ice cold coke from Pogi and Sexy… this was our Midnight(?) snack/breakfast right there at the carabao park… and we had 7:00 a.m. class the following day! Oh my! 5 units ba naman! but we still manage to attend the class, kasi may pustahan, kung sino absent, libre ice cream, sa ice cream house sa vega arcade, na naging pizza place, at xerox place na ata ngayon… BTW, does anyone know what the real name of Pogi&Sexy store is? I know it was called Pogi&Sexy because they referred to all male customers as Pogi and female, Sexy. But it’s not the name of their store.
For the real breakfast, if the disco (sa SU/Baker, sponsored by orgs/frat/soro) was a Friday night– walang klase nang 7 kinabukasan, choice between Mother’s Best and Ellen’s… tapatan lang sila nun ng pwesto.

I miss that one.

I’m a true blue LBian, born, grew up and finished my studies in LB, kaya alam ko transformation ng mga kainan dyan. But since I work and live far from LB for 3 years na, I get so mesmerized with the sights I see everytime I go home, iba na ang LB, pero andun pa rin ang memories =)
